POETESSE D’ITALIA – TRIBUTO A ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING (1806 – 1861)

Il 29 giugno 1861 moriva a Firenze una delle più illustri poetesse dell’Ottocento, Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Ella aveva trascorso i quindici anni più felici della sua vita, come moglie e madre, al piano nobile di Casa Guidi, un antico palazzo signorile in Piazza San Felice.
Per ricordare la poetessa e commemorarne la scomparsa nel 150° anniversario, proprio a Casa Guidi si terrà l’incontro ‘Poetesse d’Italia – Tributo a Elizabeth Barrett Browning’. Parteciperanno Giusy Cafari Panico, Marina Pratici, Daniela Quieti e Lella de Marchi che, oltre a leggere poesie scelte della Barrett Browning, proporranno le loro liriche. All’evento parteciperà anche Gabriella Sica che parlerà del rapporto tra Emily Dickinson e la Barrett Browning, argomento del volume Emily e le altre, finalista al Premio Strega.
L’incontro rappresenta un omaggio che alcune poetesse italiane vogliono offrire ad una delle maggiori rappresentanti della letteratura femminile di tutti i tempi e un’occasione per ricordare, nel 150° anniversario dell’Unità d’Italia, l’appassionato coinvolgimento emotivo della Barrett Browning nella causa italiana.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning, one of the most remarkable poets of the 19th-century died in Florence on 29 June 1861. She had spent the happiest years of her life, as a wife and as a mother, in an elegant flat on the piano nobile of Casa Guidi in Piazza San Felice.
On 29 June 2011, at Casa Guidi, in the flat where the Brownings lived for fifteen years, the event ‘Poetesse d’Italia – Tributo a Elizabeth Barrett Browning’ will be organized to commemorate the 150° anniversary of the poet’s death. Giusy Cafari Panico, Marina Pratici, Daniela Quieti and Lella de Marchi will read EBB’s poems and their own lines. Gabriella Sica will talk about the relationship between Emily Dickinson and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, a topic she has analyzed in her book Emily e le altre.
The event is a homage a group of Italian women poets wants to pay to one of the most renowned representatives of the female literary tradition, and it is an opportunity to acknowledge EBB’s passionate moral and political commitment in the Italian struggle for independency after 150 years since her death and the birth of the Kingdom of Italy.
